YES TO THE SUPERNATURAL; NO TO SUPERSTITION

Please do not count me among the superstitious, among those who holdto beliefs or notions that particular events could bring good or bad luck. For example, there are those who associate the number 13 with bad luck. On account of this, there are several places in the world where the number 13 is skipped when it comes to numbering rooms of guest houses, hotels, hospitals, etc. In the same vein, many hold on to the notion that if the 13th day of the month is Friday, it is an unlucky day. Some also hold
to the belief that a black cat crossing one’s path denotes bad luck or misfortune.

There are indeed many superstitious beliefs around. You may, dear reader, be familiar with some of them. No, I am not superstitious. I must admit that I used to hold superstitious beliefs, but I discarded such beliefs from the very day I decided to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and Lord of Lords, He who was, is and evermore shall be.

The fact that I do not hold superstitious beliefs does not, however, imply that I do not believe in the supernatural. In the same way that I do not want to be counted among the superstitious, I also do not want to be counted among those who, mainly or partly as a result of the insight they have gained in scientific research, deny the existence of anything that cannot be verified through the lens of scientific research. Indeed, such individuals repudiate the supernatural realm of our existence. Though there are innumerable references in the Bible pointing to the existence of Almighty God, individuals belonging to this group hold tenaciously to their views.

Yes, I am a Christian; I do believe in Almighty God, the Power that created the universe and all that it entails. Believing in Almighty God inevitably leads me to believe in the existence of Satan and his demonic host that is made up of principalities, wizards, witchcraft, voodoos, etc. The Bible states in Ephesians 6:12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Yes, without doubt, much as I do believe in Almighty God, I also do not deny the existence of principalities, powers, spiritual wickedness in high places bent on destroying and annihilating us. In the fierce spiritual battle raging between the forces of Light and darkness, whoever sides with Almighty God inevitably finds himself in opposition to the Devil and the demonic hosts bent on destroying the children of God.

In Psalm 91: 1-2 we read: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Indeed, left to us alone, we are helpless before the principalities and powers of darkness bent on destroying us. As long as the child of God dwells in the secret place of the most High he/she does not have to fear Satan and his demonic hosts, for surely “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
