In a report published on their website on June 23, 2020 the United Nations Development Programme, www.undp.org called for the introduction of a temporary basic income (TBI) to provide “a minimum guaranteed income above the poverty line, for vulnerable people in 132 developing countries” in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 around the globe.
Such income , according to the UNDP, will allow 2.7 billion people who come under the category to stay at home.
I wholeheartedly support the UNDP initiative. Basic income for all- that is what I have all along been advocating for. On Page 199 of my book, Poverty Crusade, published in 2019, I set out a ten-point action plan towards the realization of a global basic income.
For heaven’s sake, let us take all the necessary steps towards the realization of a minimum acceptable standard of living for everyone on earth!
